आधुनिकता की अंधी दौड़ में हम पर्यावरण को भूलते जा रहे है। पर्यावरण को बचाने के उद्देश्य से हर साल 2 दिसंबर को राष्ट्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण दिवस मनाया जाता है। राष्ट्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण दिवस का उद्देश्य लोगों को जागरूक बनाना, जल, वायु, मृदा और ध्वनि प्रदूषण फैलाने वाले उद्योगों के बीच जागरुकता फैलना है। इस दिन को भोपाल गैस त्रासदी की याद में मनाया जाता है। भोपाल गैस त्रासदी दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी औद्योगिक त्रासदी थी जिसमें 'मिथाइल आइयोसाइनेट' नाम की जहरीली गैस के रिसाव की वजह से बड़े पैमाने पर तबाही फैली थी।
इस दिन को मनाने का मुख्य उद्देश्य प्रदूषण रोकने के लिए प्रयास करना है। प्रदूषण देश और दुनिया के लिए बड़ी समस्या बन गया है। अगर समय रहते इस पर कंट्रोल नहीं किया गया तो आने वाली पीढ़ी को साफ हवा भी नसीब नहीं होगी। हम जितनी रफ्तार से आगे बढ़ रहे हैं उसी रफ्तार से प्रदूषण भी बढ़ रहा है।
बढ़ते औद्योगिकीकरण की वजह से कारखानों और मिलों से निकलने वाली हानिकारक गैसें हमारे सांस के जरिए शरीर में प्रवेश करके हमें बीमारियों का शिकार बना रही हैं। मौजूदा समय में प्रदूषण की समस्या दिन ब दिन बढ़ती जा रही है। सरकार और आम जनता की जिम्मेदारी है कि प्रदूषण को कम करने के लिए उपाय करें। लोगों को जागरूक करने के लिए इस दिन देशभर में विभिन्न कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए जाते हैं और लोगों को प्रदूषण से होने वाले नुकसानों के बारे में बता कर जागरूक किया जाता है। यदि प्रदूषण को कंट्रोल नहीं किया गया तो आने वाली पीढ़ियों का सांस लेना भी मुश्किल हो जाएगा।
ये हम सभी जानते हैं कि हमारे शरीर के लिए शुद्ध हवा कितनी जरूरी है। ऐसे में जो प्रदूषित हवा होती है, उसके कण हमारे शरीर में जाकर हृदय, फेफड़ों और मस्तिष्क को नुकसान पहुंचाते हैं। इसलिए हमें वायु प्रदूषण को रोकने के लिए हर वो काम करना चाहिए, जो जरूरी है।
